Regarding Our Current Budget Difficulties—The $1-billion shortfall in Colorado's budget is forcing the legislature to cut key programs. Our decisions regarding which programs to eliminate must be based on carefully chosen priorities rather than political trade-offs. I believe the last program we can afford to cut is education, particularly K-12. When we stop investing in our future, we trap ourselves into the same maze of problems we are trying to escape.
